DFM & ENGINEERING SUPPORT

Design for Manufacturability, Built In

Before tooling starts, our engineers review your drawing for material, tolerance, bend, and volume economics — and lock the process that will hold it across millions of strokes.

What We Review in Your Drawing

Flatness and warpage on large-area parts

Big blanks twist as internal stresses release during shearing and forming. Controlled stripping, leveled die sections and coining steps hold flatness, verified with CMM and optical measurement before the lot ships.

Springback on thick-gauge bends

Thick steel and stainless springs back hard after forming. Overbend compensation is tuned from first-article measurements, and coining locks critical angles, with the die adjusted in-house on our own presses.

Die deflection and tonnage balance at 45-110 tons

Large dies under full tonnage can deflect and shift station alignment. Stations are balanced in die design, the die is tried out on the production press, and die protection systems stop the press the moment a dimension drifts.

DFM to Production Flow

01

Piloting

Pilot holes locate the strip at the die entry so every station references the same datum.

02

Piercing

Piercing stations cut holes and internal features while the strip stays captive in the die.

03

Blanking

Blanking trims the outer profile and separates the finished part from the strip web.

04

Forming and coining

Bending, forming and coining shape thick-gauge bends and lock critical angles against springback.

05

Cutoff and exit

Cutoff releases the part from the strip at the die exit, ready for plating or downstream assembly.

What parts does heavy progressive die stamping produce?

Busbars, brackets, mounting hardware, wire and cable connectors, and other larger, thicker precision components that need more tonnage than a high-speed line provides. Typical programs come from EV, power distribution, switchgear, solar and industrial automation.

What materials and thicknesses can you run on the heavy line?

Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper alloys, brass and phosphor bronze on strip from 0.05 mm to 3.0 mm thick and up to 650 mm wide. The heavy 45 to 110 ton new-energy presses handle the thicker gauges that lighter presses cannot form.

What tolerances can heavy stamping hold?

Piloted progressive dies hold positioning to ±0.005 mm. Critical dimensions are verified with CMM and optical measurement in the quality lab, with in-line vision on the presses, all under an IATF 16949:2016 quality system.

Is the progressive tooling built in-house?

Yes. Die design, CAD, build, try-out and maintenance all happen in our in-house tool room with wire EDM, CNC and grinding, so tooling is proven on our own presses before volume starts and changes are made in real time.

Can heavy stamped parts be plated or finished after stamping?

Yes. Selective reel-to-reel plating applies gold, silver, tin or nickel at 2-8 µm and zinc at 5-12 µm, verified to ASTM B117 salt spray. Assembly, insert molding and overmolding are also available in the same facility.

What volumes make heavy progressive stamping economical?

Heavy progressive dies pay back as annual volume crosses roughly 50,000 pieces per year; above that, tooling amortization per part becomes marginal and per-part cost collapses. Below that range, laser cutting or CNC may win on total cost.
